CMYK Output Info

In an effort to expedite job production and ensure job quality, it is suggested that all orders be submitted per the following specifications.  Submitting unprepared files will add additional system time and may incur additional charges.  Please be sure to fill out all order form information.

File Submission
In order to more easily understand submitted jobs and to guarantee that all necessary elements to produce the job are present, pleae organize your disk into four folders labeled:

  1. Print folder (actual file to be printed)
  2. Fonts folder (any fonts used other than standard)
  3. Supports folder (if supports are used in print files)
  4. Do Not Print folder (files that do not pertain to order)

Tips for Better Results

  • Submit your files in the application's native file format.  Please specify the version used.  (ie: Quark 3.32, Corel 7 etc.)
  • Provide a B&W or color printout of your file.
  • Include a copy of all fonts used toher than the standard PostScript fonts or Truetype fonts supplied with MacOS, Windows or those provided with your application.
  • Do not rely on cut and paste.  If your EPS import contained fonts, please supply those fonts.  If your software does not save imports within the file, please provide all imported files.
  • .Placed scans in your page should be saved as RGB tiff or if you have saved paths, RGB eps files.  Scans left in CMYK mode will appear over saturated with high contrast.
  • When placing images in vector applications such as Quark, it is best to crop, skew or rotate the image as necessary in the original application before placement to avoid excessive file size and additional postscript time.
  • For direct output of raster (bitmap) files:  Supply files in RGB TIFF format (.tif), uncompressed and without any extra channels.
  • Please make sure you send CYMK files.  If we convert your files from RGB to CMYK, a loss of brilliance may occur.  (RGB images are brighter in purer hue areas and may be out of gamut range in CYMK.)
  • Any images which were not scanned by SDatlanta require a color match proof compared to a customer's origianl transparency or color print
  • RGB lighting effects converted to CMYK will band.
  • Page set up should be in proportion to final output size.

  • Four color process printing requires the simulation of Pantone colors by creating a CMYK formula.  To ensure the closest possible match, we strongly advise you to use the Pantone Process Color Imaging Guide.  This shows you the actual spot color versus the CMYK formula.  If the color you desire is not a correct match in the Process Color Imagining Guide, the CMYK formula needs to be altered to result in the best match.  Please list the desired corresponding PMS number when color match is critical.
  • Turn off the "EFI color" feature when using QuarkXPress.
  • Subtle blends or vignettes have a tendency to band in all digital output devices.  Best results are achieved when a tone value change of less than 50% is used.  Vignettes created in Photoshop, Illustrator and Freehand work best.  Avoid using the gradient fill function in QuarkXPress.  When possible, introduce "noise" to the blend.  this effect can be achieved with a simple noise filter such as those available in Photoshop.
  • We recommend the use of the following application:
         *  QuarkXPress                           *  Adobe Illustrator
         *  Freehand                                  *  Photoshop
         *  PageMaker                               *  Corel Draw
Programs such as:  Adobe Persuasion, Microsoft PowerPoint and WordPerfect are not recommended for poster products.  Why?  These programs do not support CMYK color definitions, or necessary output features for four-color printing and may alter your results.

Resolution Recommendatiuons
Scanned images should be prepated @ 100-150 dpi at final size; i.e. if your image is set up at 1/4 scale, your dpi should be 400 dpi or at 1/2 scale 200 dpi.
  • Resolution is directly realted to the dinal size of the image.  If you enlarge an image, its resolution decreases.  If you reduce an image, its resolution increases.
  • It is important when using a program which will crop your artwork for you, like quarkXPress, that the image be imported into the picture box at 100%.  By resizing the image to its actual size prior to importation, you will minimize the finished file size.

Additional Costs/Turnaround
  • Special handling charges may be added to your order to deal with incomplete order forms, missing files (fonts) and other problems that require corrections and additional preparation before output.
  • Complex or oversized files, which require significant processing time, may incur additional cost and/or turnaround time.
